Top 12 Things You Can't Be Without If You Keep Your Boat at a Marina
If you have your boat docked at a marina and spend time there hanging out, staying overnight, or enjoying weekends on the water, here are the top 10 things you can't be without.
1. Grill
Veggies on the grill for lasagna at the lake.
A grill is a must-have for any boat owner. Whether it's a compact grill or a full-size one, whichever you prefer, there's nothing like sitting on the dock next to your boat grilling up some good eats. You can even use it to help keep warm on those cooler evenings.
2. Hammock
The ultimate in dock relaxation!
I love my hammock. If you want the ultimate way to relax while watching the water and boats glide by, do it while swinging in a hammock. I have a portable one, and when I'm ready for it, I just pop it out and relaxation is activated. If your marina has a low enough ceiling, you could install brackets and attach a hammock to the crossbars—of course, only if your marina allows it.
3. Extra Seating
Although you most likely have seats on your boat, you may have a few extra people stop by, and additional seating is always a must. It can be as simple as a few bag chairs. Most are small and compact enough to store in your boat's compartment or dock box.
4. Dock Box
Dock Box to hold all your supplies.
A dock box is a must-have for anyone who spends a lot of time at the marina. It's the perfect place to store those things you need but don't necessarily want taking up space on your boat. Think of it as your utility closet at the dock. From extra supplies and cleaning products to life jackets and dock gear, a dock box helps keep everything organized and within easy reach.
5. Shore Power Cord
This cord is essential if you want power to your boat while it's docked. They come in different amperages, so make sure you get the correct one for your boat and marina setup.
6. Fishing Rod
Always a thrill when someone catches a fish from the dock.
Even if you're not a fisherman, if you're relaxing at the dock, you might as well have some fun and throw a line or two in the water.
7. Bug Spray
While being docked, you'll find that spiders can be one of your biggest problems. However, water bugs do occasionally make their way into boats as well. It's always a good idea to spray occasionally to help keep them out. Each time you arrive or leave, a quick spray can help prevent unwanted visitors.
8. Medium-Sized Trash Can
A larger trash can than the one that comes with your boat is good to have. It helps keep your space tidy and makes cleanup much easier, especially when you're spending an entire weekend at the marina.
9. Utility Cart
A utility cart is a game changer. It keeps you from having to carry so much stuff down the dock. We have multiple sizes. If we're having company, we use our larger one that stays at the marina. If it's just the two of us, we use one of the smaller carts. They're also great for hauling trash to the dumpster.
10. Wi-Fi
Most marinas are not equipped with Wi-Fi. It's a good idea to have a portable Wi-Fi hotspot so you can stay connected while you're at the dock or spending the night on your boat.
11. Extra Rope
With boats tied to the dock, the tension and strain on the ropes can eventually break down the fibers. It's always a good idea to have extra ropes and buoys on hand just in case of an emergency. You'll be glad you have them when you need them.
12. Outdoor String Lights
Outdoor string lights are perfect for those evenings when you're relaxing on the dock and want the ambiance of soft lighting. They create a cozy atmosphere and make your dock space feel even more inviting. They also come in handy when you're docking your boat at night, providing extra visibility and serving as a guide back to your slip.
Final Thoughts
Having your boat docked at a marina can feel like having a waterfront getaway whenever you want it. A few simple essentials can make your time there more comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable. These are the items we use the most, and I wouldn't want to spend a weekend at the marina without them.
